S.A.M.E provides shared workshop spaces for developing artists and designers. Additionally, we offer learning opportunities and courses for local residents who want to explore making, whilst building confidence with tools.
Our facilities enable making with materials such as wood, metal, textiles, and ceramics. We welcome a collection of designers, makers, artists, hobbyists, architects, and more. It is the merging of these diverse crafts and people under one roof that fosters unique and interesting projects. A basket weaver might collaborate with a metalworker, who in turn connects with a creative producer, and these distinct perspectives bring new ideas and enthusiasm to the city. We hope to foster a supportive community and give makers the autonomy to pursue projects not otherwise supported by traditional commercial practice.
SAME was set up in May 2024 in response to a lack of easily accessed and affordable making facilities in Sheffield. SAME is a community interest company (CIC) - we are not for profit, with our core aims being to provide affordable making facilities to Sheffield residents, and to contribute to a more sustainable relationship with the material world. SAME is currently powered by volunteers - our members work together to make the space run smoothly.
